A wonderful day for Elder Lileth Warford and Dr Carol Brown-Leonardi, who received the invitation to attend the Royal Tea Party at Buckingham Palace on Tuesday, 12 May 2026.
This was in recognition for the contribution of the Windrush Generation to Cambridge City and the UK and to Dr Carol Brown-Leonardi for her work with the Windrush and Caribbean community. The research and initiatives for the collecting Windrush histories resulted in a partnership with the Museum of Cambridge to create the Legacies of the Windrush Exhibition, which was nominated Top 5 Must See in the UK exhibition in Black History Month, October 2025.
Elder Lileth Warford and Dr Carol Brown-Leonardi were honoured to attend and enjoyed the Royal experience. Dr Brown-Leonardi would like to thank the community for successfully showing the world their contributions and feels extremely proud of the Windrush Generation and the Cambridge community.
The Royal Visit was followed up by an interview with Dotty McLeod at BBC Radio Cambridgeshire on Thursday, 14 May 2026: https://www.bbc.co.uk/sounds/play/m002vtbq (the interview starts at the 3:16:29 mark; please note the link will expire on Monday, 8 June).
